Topics: We F@*$ed Up: Stories of failure and sometimes redemption, Drupal Distributions

@KeVroN will be leading a panel and group discussion to share stories of abject failure and how you handled it, or submitted to being a failure. Be ready to share as we all go through the catharsis. If you would like to be on the panel with some juicy stories leave a comment.

Then we are going to talk Drupal Distributions. We will be going over the work Development Seed has done with Managing News and Open Atrium, along with Phase II's work with OpenPublish. We will then be talking about what the barcamp distribution should have and hopefully leave the night with a spec!

Web414 March 2010 Chatroulette

While a few of the regulars opted to go to SXSW, we true believers in the concept of Web414 stuck around and decided to play Chatroulette... It took a lot of editing for this video to be presentable on web414.com, so enjoy it before the authorities demand its removal.

Friend in Need

Nikol, Jen, Gabe, and LarryWeb414 Alum Nikol Hasler needs some dental work. Here's a way you can help her out.

The eponymous Matthew Wayne Selznick, author of the sublime "Brave Men Run" novel, puts it this way:

Folks, Nikol Hasler has been educating youth (and making them - and us - laugh) with The Midwest Teen Sex Show since 2007. She's a pioneering podcaster and a real friend of the new media community.
She's also a crazy-talented author and columnist -- in fact, writing is how she pays the bills.
Writing is also something that's very freakin' hard to do when you have a broken molar sending throbbing, continuous pain through the side of your face.

Sure, she's not in the 414 anymore, but she's still one of our own. Chip in, if you can.

April 2010 Web414 MeetingThursday, April 8th, 2010 — 7pm

Topics: Guest Jack Packard of Funny or Die, Recap of SXSW

Due to contractual obligations, Gabe will no longer be (legally) allowed to host the Web414 Show, but we'll find a suitable replacement to talk to Jack Packard, who works at FunnyOrDie.com and says his job is to "watch every single video uploaded to Funny Or Die" which is either the greatest job ever, or the worst.

We'll then turn it over to the Milwaukee Crew that attended SXSW, a little Interactive Festival they have down south every spring. We'll find out what happened, who did what, where did when, and how! KeVroN, Mike Rohde, and all their pals will amaze you with tales of INTERACTIVITY!

Share what has worked for you - share waht hasn't. Talk about what programs and scripts you use to save time. Bring questions to the group to find out better ways to do what you're doing. The discussion will be lead by a "moderator" who will bring up topics as well as ask you for your own. Hope to see you there.

4/27 - MKEPUG - Selling the Dream -- and -- Plesk Control Panel Integration

2010-04-27 18:00

Jim Raffel Presents Selling the Dream
The largest business deals I have put together are never quantity
purchases of ColorMetrix or ProofPass.com. Instead while talking with a customer or prospect I see a need or the customer sees a use of the technology that goes beyond the current functionality. This is when it gets fun. Instead of selling a piece of technology now I am selling a dream of what the technology will do for the client in the future.

Paul Lyon Presents Plesk Control Panel Integration
Plesk is a Hosting Control panel build on PHP. Paul will show a few ways he's interfaced with Plesk including a Drupal module he wrote.

Planning for March 11th show

Hey! We got a Web414 comin' up.

I'm proposing the following tweaks for the March 11 meeting:

1. I would like to have the Web414 show start at 7:30 and run to about 9 at the latest. This means that we'll start the welcome and introduction segment at about 7. WHAT?!?! Yeah. that's right. I'd like to move the community building stuff outside of the flow of the show, but not outside of the event. Community building is too important to skip over. But stopping the show to go around and introduce ourselves interrupts the watchability of the show later.

2.This also means that there isn't going to be an intermission. There may be a short break, but I'd like to do away with the 10-minute stop and talk in the middle of the show. Instead, we'll take a 1-2 minute video break, I think.

3. Is the old Web414 set still available? Or do we need a new set? Who wants to take the lead on having a set set up for me?

4. I want to stream the show live, and plan to, but it depends entirely on the venue.

Proposed Agenda
1. Welcome.
2. Creative Commons/Cameras disclaimer.
2.5 Spin the Wheel of Web414 Ideas.
3. We will watch a video together.
3. Discussion and talk with Nate from http://ItStartsWith.Us
3. ???
4. Jason "LittleTinyFish" is using his Tumblr powers for good instead of evil, and will rally the Milwaukee Tumblrs for discussion about tumblr, tumblelogging, and the awesome MKE Tumblr community.
5. We will watch a video together.
5. Informal discussion of your camping plans for 2010. (
6. Web414++
