Hello again,
As a photographer, I look at a lot of websites, just like I imagine my current and potential clients do. So, when there are things like Simple Viewer out there, where creators can make their own websites with relative ease, I am wondering what you designers think about the plethora of websites that all look similar. Does it affect your opinion of the creators of the sites? So a photog may have nice pics, but his website is obviously made in the same program as a truckload of others. I bugs me and I was wondering what you guys and gals thought. I admit, by the by, that my current site uses Simple Viewer.
Thanks,
Troy

I agree with Pete...
I agree with Pete. I think that your work should stand out above the site design, which is why, I think, a lot of photographers (and artists in general) go for simpler, clean, and understated designs. Don't want business to distract from what it is you are trying to sell!
The Work
If I was looking for a photographer, the work itself - the photographs - would matter more to me than the website design. To some degree, similarity in website design is desirable for usability. You don't want to be so unique as to be completely foreign to the way people are used to using and navigating sites. Not to sat I don't see the value in being a bit different though. Ultimately, you need to design for your audience. As far as templated websites, I build a lot of them, but the HTML is the templated part, not the CSS... which allows for a common structure, but very different visual presentation.
