We've got a big name in the computer field coming to town (Robert Martin!), and I thought you'd all enjoy this chance to hear him speak for free at the Wisconsin Java Users Group.
"Of all the Agile methods, none has captured the attention of the business community in the way that SCRUM has. The simple elegance of it's principles and practices has made it the obvious choice for project managers. The certification also has it's allure. Yet for all it's positives, SCRUM has little to say about technical disciplines.
In this talk, Robert C. Martin, founding member of the Agile Alliance, and it's first chairman, talks about how SCRUM can be supercharged through the addition of technical practices."
Agile practices are often associated with development teams, but we'll all be seeing more of them as they gain in popularity.

As many of you know, I'm active in the local chapter of the technical writers' professional organization, the Society for Technical Communication (STC). We meet monthly for dinner and a presentation. This month, we're having something that may be of interest to Web414 folks. Keith Hoffman, a tech writer and football podcaster from Madison is coming to talk.
The event is at Klemmer's in West Allis, 10401 W. Oklahoma. If you want to have dinner, you have to RSVP at www.stc-wi.org by Tuesday and pay $20 (yeah, I know). That starts at 6pm. If you just want to come for the talk, that's $5, and you can just show up (though RSVPing is nice). If anyone wants to come and can't afford the $5, let me know.
I suspect the discussion will be at a pretty basic level, but I hear Keith is an interesting/entertaining guy. I will also tell him about Web608.
"Official Verbiage":
Every day, hundreds of thousands of people are engaging in conversation on the Internet. As mobile audio and video have risen to prominence, the opportunity to connect to your audience over these channels has never been greater. This presentation will cover:
* Podcast overview/history
* Podcast demonstration
* Podcast revenue streams
Keith Hoffman is the Marketing and Communications Manager at CDW Berbee in Madison, Wisconsin. He has led several company-wide inititatives to establish a podcast channel for CDW Berbee customers. In addition, he hosts the Fanstar411 Podcast during the NFL football season, which can be found at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/fanstar411. Keith is the Immediate Past President of the STC Four Lakes Chapter and is a Senior Member.
Additionally, during dinner chapter member Trina Grieshaber will present a preview of her presentation for the STC Conference in June, "Communicating and Creating Training for Disasters and Emergencies."
